[Fibres Exotica News] Preparing for Stitch and Craft 2011
Firstly, the website has lots more yarn uploaded. I’ve still got more to do (the day job so gets in the way of the needed indexing, photography and uploading time!) but if you saw something that I haven’t uploaded yet, just give me a shout.
I’ve also managed to find 2 wooden needle/hook wholesalers, one for surina wood and the other doing ebony, bone and rosewood. They also do shawl pins & buttons.
So, I’d like your views on what treen you think I should stock? What’s your favourite needsle/hook size? Do you make things that would like quirky buttons, or a decorative shawl pin?
Secondly, as I ‘blogged in October, Jonanne J. won the £40 of yarn competition. Congratulations there!
Thirdly, upcoming shows:
- Stitch and Craft 2011 – Stand KB1 – Olympia 2, 17th -20th March 2011
- At Stitch and Craft (leaftlet attached!), as well as having a stand with all manner of everything on it, I’m giving workshop every day at 15:30:
“Space Dyeing with Kool-Aid – Kool-Aid dyeing is incredibly easy and gives a dyer of any age almost instant gratification. Included in the class will be some colour theory, the technique for microwave space dyeing and a whole heap of fun!”
- At Stitch and Craft (leaftlet attached!), as well as having a stand with all manner of everything on it, I’m giving workshop every day at 15:30:
- Quilt and Embroidery Show 2011 – Uttoxeter Race course, 15th-17th April 2011
- I’ll be aiming to rebalance what stock I take to aim at embroiderers rather than knitters, so no chunky yarns! If you would like to pop in and see me for knitting or crochet supplies however, just me know sort of what you are looking for beforehand, and I’ll pack it for you!
- Knitting and Stitching 2011 – Stand TGA13 – Alexandra Palace, 6th-9th October 2011
Fourthy, as I have to make a re-stocking order by the end of next week for Stitch and Craft, I’d like your views on what colours you mostly like buying/creating with.
Personally, I like reds and oranges, however from what I can gather talking to other knitters, what we sold at the last show and from generally looking around the internet, I believe that in the UK, we like turquoise yarn as a run away favourite! Then purples, reds, oranges, strong blues and finally green yarns. We don’t generally buy yellows, pinks or other weak “pastel” colours in large quantities as the quality of the light in the UK doesn’t show them off very well.
Given that most of the yarns that didn’t sell are yellow, pink or pastel… I can see agreement with the theory! However, as I have a customer base, I thought that I’d check if all that theory is right.
Please leave me a comment about treen and/or colours and I hopefully be seeing you at one of the shows!
Teaching
I’ve made some sales items for Teaching classes.
They aren’t on “general sale” yet, because, although I love Teaching, and it is something I do in other spheres of my life all the time, I don’t yet have the materials and coursework written for dyeing as yet.
So, what I’ve posted is very much “a taste of what is to come”, with a listing of a reasonsable price for my skills and the course materials.
However, if you are dying to have me teach a dyeing class at your facilites, just get in touch!
Customer Love: Holden Shawlette knitted from Manjula
Oh my, isn’t this just wonderful?
It’s the Holden Shawl, as knitted by MagicalMinatures on ravelry, using 150g of Manjula yarn.
I’ve got about 2Kgs in stock (Although the above was the last I had in stock of colourway AL008), which I MUST photograph and post ASAP!
So, if you fancy a bash at this, do let me know!
And the winner is…
Joanna J. from England! Cogratulations!
She’s picking stuff for me to send out to her now. I’ll be sure to photograph it before I pack it up.
and relax….
Wow.
Sunday was just as much fun and hard work as the other three! Thank you so much to everyone that “Veni, vidi, emi” (came, saw, purchased) at our stand.
Tonight, I’m having a rest! Then tommorow I’ll be putting all the slips we collected into a big box, giving it a good shake and pulling the Prize Draw that we did for £40 of Yarn and/or Fibres. After that, I’ll be taking some snaps of the stock we have left and putting them up on the site in the Retail section over the next few days.
As I said to people, what we have in the shop right now is a small selection of what the Mill can make.
So, if you saw something over the weekend that I’ve not currently got displayed, or you need something a little more specialist, just drop me an e-mail - Enquiries@sarisilk.co.uk
Nearly there!
Hi everyone one!
Just thought I’d jot you all a quick post, as it’s been a busy few days!
This is the first time I’ve actually had the chance to sit down (oo, what bliss is sitting!) and check my e-mails and all the other on-line nonsense that we all do day-to-day since pretty much since starting the set-up of the stand on Wednesday.
I’ve had the time to Twitter a couple of pictures, but we have been busy busy busy the whole way through!
It’s been both exhausting and up-lifting.
So far, me, my mum and my partner have met some fantastic people, from all cross sections of the fibre related crafting world. I’ve learned more than I thought there was to know about the many different ways that people can use yarn and fibres! For instance, who’d have thought that Embroiderers would want our beautiful Kohinoor Yarn? But they do, as they can pick it apart and use the threads in their fine filling work!
So many people have come to just stroke the silk and have a natter. It’s given me a smile every time someone has had that silk-crunch “oooo” moment, and chatting with people gives me ideas about them and what they would love to make…
We’ve also been given countless ideas about what yarns and other things we need to develop (Patterns! Sari Ribbon yarn!) and if you did come see us, I’d love you to leave us a feedback comment here! Especially about what colours you all really like…
So, wish us luck for the final day tomorrow, where we will have some end of show discounting, as you do!
See you there…
So it begins…
It’s been a few months in the making, but I’m proud to announce that Fibres Exotica is open for business!
If you’ve read our about pages, you know that we are an Internet based company, however, for the last 3 months, we have also been working hard for our first commecial outing to really launch awareness and allow us to meet our customers and get feedback!
After all, who doesn’t like to get their hands on the yarn and give it a good ol’ fondle!!
So, as well as continually selling yarn from our website, we are also going to be at The Knitting and Stitching Show 2010 – Stand D16.
The Show gives us the chance for everyone to get their hands on our yarns by the 100g Skein rather than the Kilo as most yarns are sold via the website.
We will also have Wooden Needles, Buttons and other treen that is currently being developed by the artisans in India and will be sold from the website after the show.
We will also have a feedback form competition, as we’ed love to hear your opinions about what products we should be selling!
We’ll also be asking what UK shows and markets you would like us to attend, and hope that Knitting and Stitching 2010 will be the first of many for us!
So, see you there!
